Coach Mark Robinson has refused to comment on speculation Sussex are interested in signing Worcestershire opening batsman Stephen Moore.
Reports in the Midlands suggest Moore, who is out of contract at the end of the season, is on the hit-list of four clubs: Derbyshire, Northamptonshire, Glamorgan and the champions.
Counties are allowed to approach players after giving their rivals 28 days' notice but Robinson said: "We don't speculate about players because it is unfair to my players and unethical to speak about those at other clubs."
South African-born Moore, 27, has played for Sussex before. In 2001 he had three second-team games for the county and scored 140 in one of them against Worcestershire.
He joined the Pears in 2003 and has twice passed 1,000 runs. This season he became the first English batsman to reach 500 runs and is among the top five run-scorers in the country.
Meanwhile, second-team coach Mark Davis is hoping to become English cricket's next spin guru. Former off-spinner Davis has applied for the job of ECB spin coach with the full blessing of his county.
Would Stephen Moore be a good signing for Sussex?
