Sussex are giving a trial to Brian Pietersen, brother of England star Kevin, in their current 2nd XI match against Surrey at Wimbledon Cricket Club.

The lesser known Pietersen could not make a first day impression, being dismissed for only six as Sussex struggled to 78-5 in reply to Surrey's 206-9 declared.

Pace bowler Neil Saker, made early inroads into the Sussex innings by snapping up 4-43.

The other wicket was taken by Ruel Brathwaite, who played for Combined Universities against Sri Lanka earlier this season, and he displayed genuine pace in taking 1-20 in nine overs.

Chris Murtagh (52) and wicket keeper Gary Wilson (56 not out) earlier shared a century stand for the sixth wicket to revive Surrey after they were reduced to 54-5 after being sent in.

Tim Linley was Sussex's most successful bowler with 3-48 in 23 overs, while Luke Vinter had 2-41 from 18 overs and Ollie Rayner 2-40 off 15.3 overs.

Unbeaten Sussex will be looking for a big innings from Chris Nash, their nominated player, who can face the music straight away after his side lost their fifth wicket off the final ball of the day.

Surrey will be calling up former England bowler, Chris Schofield, as their nominated player. Schofield, who had a trial with Sussex last season, did not bat on the first day.
