Lancashire's batsmen inflicted more pain on Sussex as they dominated the opening day of the County Championship clash at Hove.

The visitors had amassed 472 in their first innings at Liverpool in the opening game of the season and continued to pile on the runs at the PROBIZ County Ground to reach 322-6 at the close.

Paul Horton and Stephen Moore put on 129 for the first wicket after skipper Mark Chilton won the toss before Moore finally fell lbw to the returning Luke Wright just after lunch.

Horton followed for 78 when he skied a pull off Rana to give Ed Joyce a simple catch to leave Lancashire on 156-2.

A third wicket stand of 81 between Chilton and Karl Brown was ended when Chilton was run out by a direct hit from Murray Goodwin.

Sussex picked up a fourth wicket when Monty Panesar finally earned his reward for some fine bowling when Steven Croft was caught close in by Ben Brown.

Karl Brown looked to be homing in on a second century against Sussex this season until he fell to Rana in the penultimate over of the day for 88 with nightwatchman Gary Keedy going three balls later for a duck to give Rana his third wicket.
