James Anyon's maiden first class century could not prevent Sussex handing the initiative to Somerset on the second day of their County Championship clash at Hove.

Anyon came to the crease following an alarming batting collapse which saw Sussex lose six wickets for just 24 runs in the space of six overs.

Together with Monty Panesar they put on 50 for the eighth wicket as Sussex managed to scramble to 177 all out.

That left them facing a deficit of just 36 after they had removed the remaining three Somerset batsmen for just 14 runs in the morning.

Rana Naved got rid of Alex Barrow and Charl Willoughby to finish with figures of 5-79 while Amjad Khan got rid of Steve Kirby as Somerset were bowled out for 213.

By the close Somerset had stretched their lead to 150 however as Marcus Trescothick hit his second half century of the game.

He will resume on 64 tomorrow with Somerset well placed on 114-1 to bat themselves into a winning position.
