Sussex lost their last nine wickets for just 39 runs as they crashed to defeat against Hampshire at the Rose Bowl.

The Sharks looked in a healthy position when they reached 52-1 in pursuit of Hampshire's total of 126-8.

Shahid Afridi removed Luke Wright (24) and Lou Vincent in his first over and Sussex were never able to recover.

Afridi also removed Ben Brown to finish with figures of 3-10 while fellow spinner Imran Tahir also claimed three wickets as Sussex completely folded.

Earlier, Sussex had done well to peg Hampshire back after Afridi had given them an explosive start.

The Hawks raced to 49-1 inside five overs but good bowling from Monty Panesar (2-24), Umar Gul (2-24) and Rana Naved (2-19) saw the hosts score just 75 from the final 15 overs.

The result means Sussex are third in the south group after ten games ahead of the home game against Gloucestershire at Arundel on Sunday.
