Luke Wright made an unbeaten 75 to deny Warwickshire victory inside three days against Sussex at Arundel.

Sussex looked on course for an innings defeat when they were reduced to 114-5, still trailing by 117.

Wright put on 87 for the sixth wicket with Ollie Rayner as Sussex reached 201-5 at the close but will still need another 29 runs just to make Warwickshire bat again tomorrow.

Earlier, Warwickshire had stretched their first innings lead to 230 as Rikki Clarke made an unbeaten 81 and Keith Barker 52.

Monty Panesar claimed the wickets of Jeetan Patel and Chris Metters to finish with figures of 3-88 while Wright dismissed Barker to end with 3-54.

Sussex's reply got off to the worst possible start with openers Ed Joyce and Chris Nash out to Boy Rankin inside the first six overs.

Luke Wells made 32 before being stumped off the bowling of Patel who also dismissed Murray Goodwin (10) and Andre Hodd (9).
