Andrew Hodd has left Sussex and signed a two-year deal with Yorkshire.

The wicketkeeper had not played a first team game for Sussex this season and joined Yorkshire on loan last month.

Hodd has impressed with his wicketkeeping in his three Championship matches for the Tykes and scored 58 on debut against Derbyshire.

The 28-year-old from Chichester said: “I am really looking forward to the challenges ahead with Yorkshire, but would also like to thank everyone at Sussex. I wish them all the best for the future and hope our paths cross in division one of the Championship next summer.”

Hodd made his Sussex debut in 2003 but joined Surrey two years later due to a lack of first team opportunities. He returned to Hove in 2006 but lost the battle for the gloves firstly to Matt Prior and then Ben Brown.

Jason Gillespie, Yorkshire’s first team coach, said: “Andrew is one of the best keepers in the country and you want the best players in your team.

“We’ve got no qualms about signing him because he’s a great lad and a very good cricketer. When lads like that come along you snap them up.”
