Richard Pacquette could give Eastbourne Borough a fitness boost ahead of today’s clash with Gosport Borough at Priory Lane.

The nine-goal striker trained on Thursday after recovering from a hamstring injury which forced him off in Borough’s last match a fortnight ago.

Providing he reports no reaction to that session, Pacquette, will come back into the squad to take on fifth-placed Gosport.

The situation regarding defender Adam Watts is less clear.

Watts has missed three months of the season with an on-going hamstring injury and a broken toe.

His fitness has to be managed carefully and manager Tommy Widdrington does not know whether he will be available for today’s game.

Borough are currently 14th in the table, 11 points clear of the relegation zone but 16 points adrift of the play-off places.

Widdrington just wants them to focus on finishing the season strongly in order to take some momentum into next season.

He said: “We are just going to look forward to the next nine games and, first and foremost, give a good account of ourselves.

“The most important thing is to perform, because we didn’t perform against Farnborough.

“What you will see is a young, energetic, vibrant side who are trying to earn longer contracts at the club.”

Widdrington has scope in his budget to bring in new faces if he wants, having recently released Marvin Hamilton and Dean Sinclair but he said: “Anybody coming in now will probably be from the academy.”
