Joe Tabiri has promised there is more to come after bagging his first goal for Lewes.

The on-loan Barnet midfielder followed up a man-of-the-match display against Stevenage last Saturday by scoring what proved to be the winner at Salisbury on Tuesday.

Tabiri’s spell at the Dripping Pan got off to a inauspicious start after he was sent off on his debut at Wrexham for two yellow cards but since then he has improved with every game.

After having his loan extended for a second month, the 19-year-old is determined to help Lewes in their battle for Blue Square premier survival.

They moved off the bottom with their first away win of the season on Tuesday but have a break from league action tomorrow with a tricky FA Trophy first round tie away to Blue Square south side Team Bath.

Tabiri, whose stature and looks belie his age, said: “I am here to help Lewes and give my best for the team because Lewes are really good people.

“Anyone my age needs regular games and the more you play the more your confidence goes up and your fitness as well.

“In my first game against Wrexham my fitness showed because I was second to balls. Hopefully I can impress, do well for Lewes and get back in the Barnet first team.

“I have got a two-year contract with a one-year option so it is a case of getting more experience and playing games. It is part of my learning curve.

“I am enjoying myself, I think I am playing well and it helps that we play good football. We have experienced players in the team and they talk to me a lot which is good.”

London-born Tabiri came through the youth ranks at Barnet and made his first team debut against Albion in the Carling Cup in August.

He has the attributes to be a good all-round midfielder: he can sit, get forward, pass and tackle.

Revival With a home game coming up against another bottom four side, Woking, next Saturday Tabiri believes Lewes can continue a revival which has seen them win two of their last three games.

He said: “We definitely have a fighting chance of staying up. In the games I have played for Lewes so far, most we should have won. At Torquay we lost 4-1 but we had so many chances and we played better than Torquay that day.

“We outplayed Grays and had chances to beat Stevenage. We have a good chance of staying up although we need to stop conceding from set-pieces. But we are playing good football and that is the main thing.”

Lewes will be without the injured Sam Gargan and Steve Elliott tomorrow, while Aswad Thomas serves a one-match ban and Tom Graves is cup-tied after playing in the Trophy while on loan at Horsham.

David Wheeler returns after being unavailable for the last two matches and fellow youth team players Tim Rivers, Fred Foreman and Grant Hall are likely to be in the squad.

Tom Lyons may also be involved after missing the trip to Salisbury due to work commitments.

Team Bath include former Crawley player Sami El-Abd, who Rooks boss Kevin Keehan was interested in signing in the summer. El-Abd is the younger brother of Albion defender Adam.
