Garry Wilson admits his hopes of bringing in fresh faces are being hampered by a lack of funds.

The Eastbourne Borough manager is desperate to shake up his squad following a run of 14 league games without a win.

However, chairman Len Smith has told Wilson there is no extra money for reinforcements so he must offload players before he can make any signings.

Borough have had no takers for winger Dan Smith, who has been on the transfer list for more than two months, while Michael Jordan, Matt Smart, Nathan Crabb and James Fraser are also available for loan.

Wilson said: “We know we have got to change the playing staff but we cannot afford to bring players in on top of what we have got. We’ve got to move players out first to balance the books.

“We are trying hard to get things happening but it is difficult. You can set up deals but the players have got to agree to go.

“We’ve made calls about bringing people in and there are a few things on the go but it all depends on the timing. I am hopeful by the time of the next league game we will have some fresh faces though.”

Borough have not won in Blue Square premier since September 22 to stand just a point above the drop zone.

But assistant manager Nick Greenwood insists they are not a bad team and one or two additions could be enough to turn things around.

Greenwood said: “If you haven’t won for 14 games you would say we needed major surgery but I think it only requires tinkering in key areas.

“We have let in too many poor goals so that is definitely an area that needs adresssing.”

Borough could raise some funds this Saturday when they take on Cambridge United in the FA Trophy second round with £6,000 up for grabs for the winners.
