Lewes missed out on a chance to move out of the relegation zone with a goalless draw against St Albans at the Dripping Pan.

The original meeting between the sides was abandoned just after half-time in November due to fog with the game at 0-0 and this match picked up where that one left off.

St Albans had the better of the early chances and Lewes keeper Rikki Banks prevented the visitors taking the lead in the 15th minute when he parried Ross Dedman’s shot to safety.

Rooks were guilty of some loose passing but they slowly began to get involved and Chris Breach headed narrowly wide from a corner.

An injury to Andy Pearson saw Breach drop back into defence after half time.

Banks was busy after the restart, preventing Peter Smith and Gary Cohen from breaking the deadlock, but Lewes stepped up a gear with the introduction of Jean-Michel Sigere.

Rooks almost took the lead when Sigere’s lay-off found Jack Walder but the midfielder’s shot across the face of goal bounced off the foot of the far post.

Breach went close with a header and right at the death, Lewes had a great chance when James Fraser’s cross from the left reached David Wheeler on the line, but keeper Paul Bostock pounced on the loose ball.

Lewes: Banks, Barness, Hamilton, Pearson (Louis 46), Walder, El-Abd, Wheeler, Breach, Keehan (Sigere 66), Fraser, Brinkhurst. Unused subs: Peauroux, Pople, Crellin.
