Steve Brinkhurst is relishing the prospect of playing regular football after signing for Eastbourne Borough.

The former Albion winger turned down trials at two league clubs to become Borough’s third summer signing this week.

Former Seagulls boss Micky Adams offered Brinkhurst the chance to train with Port Vale while Gillingham were also interested in taking a closer look at the 19-year-old.

Brinkhurst said: “I had offers for trials but nothing concrete. I could have gone there and not got anything and then I would have been back to square one.

“Even if I got a contract at a league club there would have been no guarantees I would get in the team and so the prospect of playing regular competitive football at Eastbourne was the deciding factor.

“I just want to be playing week in week out at this stage of my career. Obviously I would like to get back into full-time football at some stage but my view is that if I am good enough I will make it back into the league at some stage.

“There were some other Conference clubs interested but Eastbourne contacted me very early on after I had been released by Albion.

“I wanted to take some time to consider my options but once I had done that I had no hesitation in joining.”
