Lewes remain rooted to the bottom of Blue Square Bet south after going down 2-0 in their bottom-of-the-table clash at home to Dorchester.

The Rooks rarely looked like scoring against a side that had won just one league game all season.

They lacked imagination going forward and looked unsure at the back.

Manager Steve Ibbitson was again hit hard by injuries with Simon Wormull, David Wheeler, Chris Breach and Lewis Hamilton all ruled out from the previous week's FA Cup win at home to Thurrock but he must be worried about his side's predicament following such a sorry showing.

The Rooks made a bright start with Tom Murphy's 20-yard half volley hitting a post on six minutes and the same player going close again three minutes later.

But the lively Murphy did not see much more of the ball for the rest of the half as Dorchester seized control, going ahead on 22 minutes when Scott Manning clipped Guiseppe Sole for a penalty which Sole got up to convert.

Home keeper Chris Winterton then pushed away a free-kick from Sole before denying the same player from close range.

Fortune also smiled on Lewes just before the break when Jamie Gleeson's goalbound shot hit an offside Ryan Moss on its way into the net.

The second half was no better for Lewes as they failed to create anything in the final third despite a trio of substitutions and were lucky not to be punished further when a Marc Pullan let in Sole who wasted the opportunity.

A second goal did follow two minutes from time when Danny Ings clipped the ball past Pullan all too easily before rifling into the top corner.

Lewes: Winterton; Barness, Pullan, Manning (sub Carey 46), Rowe; Wills (sub Jones 67), Ide, Cobbs, Redwood; Gradwell (sub Beck 54), Murphy. Subs not used: Pearson, Lang.
