Lewes have been relegated following a 2-1 defeat at home to fellow strugglers Bishop's Stortford.

The Rooks went into the game knowing a victory could lift them out of the bottom three in Blue Square Bet south with one game to play.

But a limp performance condemned them to relegation to Ryman premier for next season.

Chris Breach had a goal disallowed for offside on 14 minutes after Joe Dolan flicked on Jermaine Wright's free-kick.

The visitors took a decisive grip on the game with two goals in three minutes towards the end of the half.

First, Michael Bakare headed home Phil Anderson's cross on 38 minutes and two minutes later Dean Rance steered an Aiden Palmer pass into the far corner.

Bakare should have scored a third on 69 minutes and that promoted an ugly confrontation between skipper Breach and goalkeeper Chris Winterton who were both booked for shoving each other.

With four minutes remaining substitute Rory Hill drove a free-kick low into the bottom corner but it was too little, too late.
