Ian Davies today told his conquering Worthing heroes: "There's no let-up from here on in."

An away following estimated at between 300 and 500 roared their delight after Worthing held on with 13 men through four minutes of added time to win 14-10 at London Scottish and knock them off the top of London One.

The key match in the race for the one automatic promotion place now looks to be Worthing's trip to Ealing on March 3.

Scottish go to Ealing a week on Saturday for what now looks like being a final eliminator for the right to challenge Worthing.

Unless, that is, those two sides draw with each other, which would suit Worthing down to the ground.

Coach Davies, though, insists there are more tense afternoons ahead after a try by outstanding debut flanker Jason Mellors and three Phil Williams penalties saw off the Scots.

He said: "There are still eight games to go and raising ourselves against the lower sides will be a challenge.

"We had fantastic support at Scottish. It really makes a difference.

"But the games are going to get bigger and bigger now and I hope our support realise that and stick with us."

Worthing led 14-3 at the break but the buffer was down to four points when injuries and a yellow card for the outstanding Jamie Stewart-McDonald left them short-handed for the final stages.

They were under fierce pressure on their own line but survived to record a famous result.

Worthing's run-in includes a trip to Haywards Heath, who have a bit to do yet to secure their status after losing 20-12 at Old Albanian.

Lewes scored first at Beckenham through Dave Hemsley but ended up losing 30-5 in London Two South.

Chichester scored a superb 13-5 home win over London Three South East leaders Purley John Fisher though they still need favours from elsewhere if they are to grab the play-off spot.

Phil Veltom scored a try and Andy Webb kicked the conversion and two well-taken penalties to reward a strong forward display.

Chi came from 5-0 down at the break for their win.

Bognor were thumped 45-0 at Sidcup.
