Lewes booked a Sussex Senior Cup quarter final tie with Horsham with what was ultimately a comfortable 3-1 victory at Selsey.

Manager Steven King was without eight first team regulars but his side still did enough to see off the challenge of the hosts.

Just as important for the Rooks was the return of Paul Booth as a second-half substitute following a month-long injury lay-off.

King said: "Just to see Boothy out there was a relief. I'm happy he got through okay."

The County League side kept the visitors at bay for much of the first half with an excellent display of resilience and determination but then conceded two goals in the space of four minutes.

The first arrived ten minutes before the break when Jamie Cade netted with the home defence appealing in vain for offside and moments later Ian Simpemba, playing in the centre of midfield, fired home a second from an acute angle.

After the interval the visitors rarely looked in danger of letting their hosts back into the game, although it took a tremendous save by on-loan keeper Corrin Brooks-Meade to keep out a thunderous John Price effort on 65 minutes.

Lee Farrell extended the lead late on after a neat run and cross by substitute Tyrone Berry before Andy Brown grabbed a deserved consolation for the home side late on.

Selsey: Smart; Lee, M. Hinshelwood, Pearce, Price, Miles, Brown, Morey, Storey, Ridley, Stillman.

Lewes: Brooks-Meade; Elliott, Hewitt, Simpemba, Robinson, Legge, Sharpling, McEntegart, Cade, Farrell, Hall. Subs used: Booth, Goodwin, Berry.

Meanwhile, Lewes have released former Watford and Gillingham left-back David Perpetuini.

The 27-year-old made 16 appearances after signing from Stevenage in September.

Former Lewes defender Dean Hooper is set to sign for Cambridge United.
