Gary Croydon is to wield the axe at Burgess Hill to arrest their slide down the table.

Hillians' last Ryman League division one victory was a 4-1 win over Leatherhead on November 25 and they have only picked up three points from a possible 21 since then.

In their last two games they suffered a 4-0 defeat to Sussex rivals Horsham YMCA on Boxing Day and were thrashed 7-2 at Dartford last Saturday.

Croydon said: "We have hit a bad patch with our young players and too many have been in the comfort zone.

"There is going to be a big shake-up at the club over the next few weeks.

"Players will go and players will come in because this is a results-driven business and we have slipped down the table alarmingly. If the players do not perform, they will not be here.

"Even though I am the owner as well as manager, I am not impervious to criticism. I have my standards and one win in seven is not good enough. I expect us to knuckle down now and heads will roll if we don't."

Glen Matten is the latest player to have left the club following goalkeeper Chris May's return to Ramsgate, Steve Sallis's switch to East Grinstead and Kevin Keehan's move to Worthing.

Croydon is hoping to sign centre half Andy Howard, who was with Horsham last season, and another player from out of the county as he bids to strengthen his depleted squad.
