Sian Honnor insists she could not wish for a more satisfying end to her time in Glasgow than to produce the perfect performance in winning a first Commonwealth Games gold medal.

The 26-year-old from Worthing formed a formidable partnership with Ellen Falkner and Sophie Tolchard in the women’s triples, beating Wales in the semi-finals yesterday morning to reach the final.

Australia stood between Honnor and a gold medal but she showed nerves of steel to blast them away – winning 22-4 with their opponents conceding after 15 of the scheduled 18 ends.

Disappointment in the women’s fours earlier in the week – they exited at the quarter-final stage – had spurred Honnor on and she admits getting gold is the perfect end.

Honnor, who adds Glasgow 2014 gold to the bronze medal she won in the triple four years ago in Delhi, said: “It’s unbelievable. It will take a little while to sink in.

“I felt like I didn’t have much to do, my partners played so well and on the odd occasion we were one down it was very easy to go after.

“We couldn’t have asked for a better game. It was amazing. Even though we’re absolutely drenched, we couldn’t be happier.

“It means everything to win gold. If you would have said to me that is what would happen after last week and the fours I wouldn’t have thought so.

“You don’t want to think too much about winning gold because you don’t want to think too far ahead but we have done it.

“Australia are probably one of the strongest opposition we could face and I think we just went out there and took our form through and used the momentum to get us there.”

Team England have realised their potential on the Glasgow greens with four medals already won and two more guaranteed with players in finals today.

And having made up for the disappointment of the women’s fours, Honnor believes it was the positive attitude of her teammates that eventually resulted in success.

“This dynamic worked really well and we are enjoying playing together,” she added.

“We are in the fours and are all really close off the green as well, which always helps. We are just so happy that we have got our hands on the gold medal.”
