The international touch helped Bognor power to a long overdue win in their battle against relegation.

But delight at beating Gravesend 32-5 was dampened when they heard results from elsewhere.

Wins for Dunstonian and Aylesford mean Bognor remain three points from safety.

But there are four teams separated by one point just above the relegation line.

The way promotion and relegation goalposts can change after the season has ended, Bognor must have a chance of remaining in London Three South East.

Former Ireland prop Justin Fitzpatrick made the most of a free weekend for Ulster by helping prepare Bognor for their big match.

He took training on Thursday and had input on matchday.

Karl Flynn, who has recently taken over as player-coach, said: "He went through the gameplan and made it a little more simple.

"We cut out a couple of things but it was really just a case of him being there.

"He refreshed things, gave people confidence and the players responded. Now it's a case of doing it every week."

The fact they fielded a settled side was key for Bognor. So too was a great performance from outsidehalf by skipper Rob Parry.

Ian Myhill (2), Dave Sweeney and Tim Strickland scored tries.

Parry kicked 12 points and Flynn reckons his side could yet get out of trouble. He said: "Four wins might be enough. We've got a chance. We played some really good rugby on Saturday."

Chichester did the damage at the Vultures' End as they beat Lordswood 29-10.

They have made a habit of turning it on attacking the clubhouse end of Oaklands Park.

Chi supporter Roger Gould, who coined the phrase Vultures' End, said: "The team loves to kick and drive to the left corner so the touchline support can congregate to see the kill. Supporters leaning over the balcony add to the scene that resembles a crowd of vultures."

The locals had four tries to enjoy as Sean Hammond and Phil Dickin scored from driving mauls, Tom Polhill ran in after an interception and his brother Ben charged through.

Ben Polhill, the Chichester skipper, said: "The first half was frustrating because we had possession in the right areas but couldn't find the last pass. We upped our game after half-time."

Andy Webb kicked three conversions and a penalty to help kill off a Lordswood side who led 7-0 at the break.
