Eastbourne moved within one game of reaching their very first cup final after defeating higher league opposition for the second time in the Sussex Trophy.

Forward John Oakey touched down twice as the London Four SE leaders beat Chichester 12-5 at a muddy Hampden Park to book their place in the semi finals.

Eastbourne totally dominated up front against a Chichester side who have promotion hopes of their own in London Three SE and must now wait to see who they will play in the last four.

Worthing are the only other side definitely through courtesy of their walkover against Brighton while East Grinstead play Haywards Heath and either Lewes or Crawley face Hove in the other quarter finals which are yet to be played.

Eastbourne director of rugby Tony Welford said: "We are trying to keep our focus on the league because promotion is our main aim this season but it would be nice to reach a cup final.

"We'd already beaten Bognor in the Trophy this season so to knock out another side from a higher division has given the players quite a bit of confidence.

"It would be nice to have a crack at Lewes in the semis as that would be another step up but we'll have to wait and see what the draw throws up."

In Sussex One, Heathfield kept their faint promotion hopes alive with a 25-5 victory over Crawley while Uckfield won 27-5 at secondbottom Pulborough.

Haywards Heath's EDF Energy Intermediate Cup quarter final at Dunstablians was posptoned due to snow.
