Eastbourne Town took advantage of a surprise slip-up by Crowborough to go three points clear at the top of County League division one.

Town made hard work of beating bottom club Worthing United 3-2 but Crows suffered their first home defeat of the season - 2-0 against Ringmer, who scored through Mark Price and Wayne Laycock, both from free-kicks.

Five Crowborough players were booked for fouls on Ringmer flyer Eddie Keboah.

Ringmer boss Steve Johnson said: "Eddie tore them to bits with his pace. We battled well and then our quality came through, we played really well and deserved to win."

Eastbourne Town boss Ady Colwell admits his side were hanging on at the Saffrons after going 3-0 up with an hour play thanks to Liam Baitup (two) and Steve Dallaway.

Gavin Geddes pulled two goals back for United and the hosts had to endure a nervy last five minutes.

Colwell said: "We deserved to win, we must have created 20 chances but that was our seventh 3-2 victory of the season. At 3-0 we dropped off the pace and that gave them hope. We can't keep doing it."

Whitehawk are still very much in the title shake-up after a 2-1 win at Wick.

Tommy Pattenden headed them in front from Lee Newman's cross and Roy Pook scrambled in a second before Mark McCallum pulled one back.

Hawks' boss Ian Chapman admitted it was not a vintage performance. "Apart from the first 15 minutes of each half it was a struggle, we kept giving the ball away cheaply," he said.

Arundel remain on the fringes of the title race after seeing off brave Three Bridges 4-2.

Matt Huckett scored twice after Stuart Hack's third-minute opener but Marlon Maxwell and Nathan Davis kept Bridges in contention until Lee Barnard settled it with a 25-yard special.

Littlehampton are off the bottom after Stuart Bennett's penalty was enough to beat Shoreham 1-0 at Middle Road.

The Marigolds have not lost in the league on the road since October so boss Trevor Waller is looking for them to improve their home form, starting tonight against Hailsham.

He said: "We're aiming to finish third-bottom because I don't think we will get relegated then. We've got a chance if we keep putting in the effort we showed on Saturday."

Eastbourne United stay fifth after Simon Catt and Mark Warren earned them a 2-0 win over East Preston while a Matt Amos double was enough for Hassocks against Oakwood.

Redhill pulled clear of the relegation zone after goals from Luke Jones (two), Billy Jackson and Mickey Beale helped them beat Sidley 4-2.

Dan Leach got his 28th of the season for Hailsham in their 1-0 win over Chichester while John Price and Daren Pearce scored second-half goals in Selsey's 2-0 victory over Rye.
