Eastbourne Eagles star Davey Watt is facing up to six weeks on the sidelines after breaking a wrist.

But promoter Bob Brimson admitted he was relieved Watt's injuries were not far worse after a spectacular smash at Arlington.

Watt was sent hurtling over the safety fence after tangling with Travis McGowan in his first ride of Eagles' 55-38 demolition of leaders Reading. The meeting was delayed for more than half-an-hour as the concussed Watt was treated by on-track medical staff.

Brimson said: "A broken wrist is a bad injury in itself but the crash looked very bad. He was in a lot of pain and it looked like neck and hip or pelvis injuries as well.

"We will know the full extent in a couple of days but he will be back. Speedway riders are made of rubber and springs."

Eagles must operate rider-replacement for Watt in forthcoming fixtures, including tonight's Elite League trip to Belle Vue (7.30pm).

Dean Barker, David Norris, Cameron Woodward and Lewis Bridger take one extra ride apiece.

Brimson added: "Our reserves were stunning on Saturday.

"For some reason some riders don't like going to Belle Vue but I'm looking forward to it. I want our first away win of the season tonight."
