Eastbourne Borough extended their unbeaten league run to 11 matches with a dour goalless draw at Dorchester last night.

The stalemate, Borough's 13th of the season, has done little for their faint hopes of clinching the final play-off spot.

Eastbourne came into the game looking to heap more woe upon a Dorchester side that crumbled 5-1 at home to Weston Super Mare on Saturday.

And the home side looked ill at ease in the first 20 minutes as Borough carved out, and then squandered, a number of half chances.

Pat Harding scooped over from Allan Tait's flick-on, Scott Ramsay lobbed neatly into the goalkeeper's hands and Paul Armstsrong fired a free-kick wide of the post.

But it was Dorchester who came closest to scoring on 38 minutes when Borough goalkeeper Lee Hook did well to claw away Mark Robinson's drive and Alex Browne cracked the follow-up against the post.

The second half was a dire affair as both sides gave the ball away with alarming regularity.

It wasn't until the 72nd minute before either goal was threatened when Dorchester's Liam Cockerill fired a shot from 30 yards just wide of the angle of post and bar.

With a goalless draw looking inevitable, Tait came within inches of snatching the winner seven minutes from time when his firm shot struck the underside of the bar.

Borough coach Nick Greenwood said: "It wasn't a classic and we didn't play particularly well but it's a long way to go so a point is something.

"As for the play-offs, nothing is decided yet. We still have nine games left and 27 points to play for."

Lewes boss Steven King admitted his side's play-off hopes are fading after they were held to a goalless draw by struggling Basingstoke.

Neither side could make much headway in attack during a fairly drab 90 minutes.

But King felt his side should have had a penalty with ten minutes to go but the referee failed to spot what King described as a blatant' handball.

He said: "You can always tell by the reaction of the players and everyone was expecting the ref to blow."

King admits his side face an uphill task to reach the play-offs now.

He added: "The other results went for us so we'll just keep going and see what happens."
