County League round-up: Eastbourne Town are back in the title race thanks to a little help from their local rivals.

While Town were confirming Littlehampton's relegation with a 7-0 win at the Saffrons, leaders Whitehawk suffered a 2-1 home defeat against Eastbourne United.

It means Town can cut Hawks' lead to a single point if they win at Sidley tonight while their hopes of securing a top-two finish to guarantee promotion were boosted by third-placed Crowborough's 2-0 home defeat against Chichester.

Boss Ady Colwell said: "We've had a good day. Before it started it was probably more important that we stayed ahead of Crowborough but it's better to be chasing than be chased."

Liam Baitup took his tally for the season to 40 goals with four against Littlehampton but the pick of the goals was Gary Brockwell's solo effort.

Colwell, however, was still not totally satsified. He said: "We were still hard on the players because I counted that we created 35 chances and missed a hatful."

Eastbourne United boss Brian Dennis is determined to finish in the top six. They took a two-goal lead at Whitehawk through Matt Jones' close-range finish and Nathan Crabb's header. Craig Bunch pulled one back in the second half but Dennis felt his side were worthy winners.

He said: "With the reserves getting promotion as well it has been a great day for the club."

Crowborough's title hopes are effectively over after Michael Turvey's 20-yard volley and Scott Murfin's low shot earned Chichester a 2-0 win at the Alderbrook.

At the bottom Wick and Sidley secured top-flight football for another season.

Two goals from Chris Honey earned Sidley their 2-1 win over Oakwood while two long-range efforts from youngster Asa Nicholson secured Wick a 2-2 draw at home to Shoreham.

Worthing United and Rye are almost certain to join Littlehampton in division two after both lost. Hailsham's Dan Leach took his tally for the season to 35 in the 3-1 win over United while Rye lost 2-0 at home to Selsey.

Ringmer scored three goals in the last 12 minutes to earn a 4-3 home win over Three Bridges, Arundel could afford a missed penalty and still beat Hassocks 1-0 thanks to Stuart Hack's header and James Rhodes, Jay Head and Steve Metcalf were East Preston's marksmen in the 3-2 win over Redhill.

Pagham were promoted from division two following a 2-0 win at home to Westfield.
