Johanna Konta's remarkable run at Eastbourne is over.
The British No.2 lost 2-6, 6-0, 6-3 to Swiss 18-year-old Belinda Bencic in the quarter-finals of her home town tournament, the Aegon International, at Devonshire Park today.
The 146 ranked Konta, with wins behind her against the world No.34, 8 and 20, was on course to cause another upset in the first set against world No.31 Bencic.
They met in the first round last year, when Konta prevailed in straight sets, but Bencic emphasised the dramatic progress she has made since then to clinch a potential semi-final against Caroline Wozniacki.
Konta had a medical time out before the start of the deciding set, during which her blood pressure was taken.
She subsequently showed no ill-effects and will discover her first round opponent at Wimbledon when the draw is made tomorrow.
