Davey Watt today admitted his hectic four-day comeback schedule caught up with him at just the wrong time.

But the Eastbourne Eagles star is confident he will be raring to go for his next matches after making an early exit from a televised tussle with Reading on Monday.

Watt withdrew from the meeting after just two rides, suffering from severe headaches.

It was his fourth fixture in as many nights, having missed the previous five weeks due to a broken wrist and head and neck complaints.

The Aussie looked to be in fabulous form as he posted near-perfect scores of 17(6) at Oxford on Friday and 12+2(5) at home to Belle Vue on Saturday.

His comeback weekend also included a debut in arguably speedway's toughest league, the Ekstraliga in Poland, when he was up against the leaders.

He scored 7 (5) in that one as his Rseszow track enjoyed a 49-41 home win over Leszno.

But, by Monday, the rides and travelling had taken their toll.

He was a pretty dejected looking fixture in the pits as depleted Eagles held on for a bonus point, despite losing 54-38 on the night.

Watt had already withdrawn from a possible fixture in Sweden last night.

Now he is preparing for Rzeszow's clash at Torun on Sunday followed by Eagles' latest assault on a bonus point when they take a 22-point lead to Wolverhampton on Monday.

He said: "I had a bit of a ride at Poole last Wednesday and I noticed a little bit of a headache but it didn't seem to be anything.

"But I think four meetings in four days took its toll and was just a bit much for me. I can't complain about my riding.

"Unfortunately the team was quite depleted on Friday at Oxford and we were beaten fair and square. But I felt good in myself. I was gating well and riding well and felt like I hadn't really had any time off.

"I had a few little headaches on Friday, then on Saturday they got worse.

"It still felt like I was riding well but on Sunday I went to Poland and it was really bad, although I got through it.

"Then on Monday it just got the better of me. It had been quite bad all day, to be honest.

"I flew back in about lunchtime and I took a fair bit of time in the afternoon to get rid of a migraine.

"It seemed to go and I thought I had it beat but it came back to bite me."

Watt now has the almost unheard of luxury for a speedway rider of five nights with no fixture and he reckons his second weekend back will be a bit easier than the first.

He said: "I'm flying into Poland on the Saturday so I'll be taking it quite easy. I fly back on Sunday night so I'll have Monday morning off as well.

"I do Sweden on Tuesday but I have a late flight out and a late flight back. I've organised things to be very, very easy for me next week so hopefully with all the work I get done this week, plus some rest, it should be a bit better."

With David Norris and Dean Barker already out and Kevin Doolan failing to make an impression as guest, Eagles were left with four men to battle a Reading side desperate to make up for home defeat by Poole three nights earlier.

Given that, and considering they were also without Watt for almost the entire meeting with Reading, they could feel pretty satisfied to have emerged with an aggregate bonus.

But you could tell Trevor Geer would have loved to have sent out a full team to impress the Sky Sports audience.

The Eagles team boss said: "To lose Davey like that was a shame. I think the flight to Poland probably triggered something off.

"He had a stinker of a headache in the pits and he couldn't concentrate.

"He was almost sick before the meeting and he looked terrible. I had my doubts about him before the meeting.

"Hopefully by next Monday we will be able to show people what we can really do."
