Amber Anning came agonisingly close to qualifying for tonight's 400 metres semi-finals at the European Indoor Championships in Glasgow.
The Brighton and Hove teenager, making her senior debut for Team GB, finished third in her heat in 53.26 secs, 0.05 of a second behind French runner-up Agnes Raharolahy and automatic qualification.
Anning, 18, just missed out on claiming one of the 18 semi-final spots as a fastest loser with a time quicker than both qualifiers from another heat.
BHASVIC student Anning earned her place at the event by breaking the 49-year-old British under-20s record in the trials in Birmingham, clocking 53 secs.
