Sussex hope Traffic Fluide has been pulled out of the Grand National due to injury.
The strongly fancied nine-year-old would have been a first runner in next month's Aintree showpiece for Horsham trainer Gary Moore.
Traffic Fluide, who won over fences on his latest outing at Ascot in November, was due to have a prep run over hurdles at Newbury on Friday.
Moore revealed to The Argus: "He just had a setback. You can't go there (Aintree) 99 per cent, you've got to go there 110 per cent.
"We won't run him this year and hopefully get him right for next year.
"It's a sickener for me, the staff and the owner. We were very much looking foward to it."
Eighty-one runners are left after today's latest entry stage for the National which gets under starters orders at 5.15pm on April 6, 15 minutes before Albion kick-off their FA Cup semi-final against Manchester City at Wembley.
