Albion Under-23 forward Viktor Gyokeres has signed a new three-year deal.

Gyokeres, whose new deal will run until 2022, was given his senior debut against Southampton in the Carabao Cup last August, before making four appearances for Chris Hughton’s side in their run to the Emirates FA Cup semi-finals.

He was also included in Albion’s 18-man squads for Premier League matches against Cardiff City, Everton and Manchester United but the 20-year-old is yet to make his debut in the top flight.

Gyokeres has scored eight goals during Albion’s first season in the Premier League 2 Division 1 and contributed towards a successful campaign for Simon Rusk’s team, who finish their season against Chelsea this week.

Coach Rusk said: “It’s clear to see Viktor’s potential — we brought him to the club as a young player and he’s continuing to show progress both on and off the field.

“He needs to remain grounded and hard-working, which are key ingredients in any young player’s development. If he does those things, then I’m sure he can fulfil his potential."

Gyokeres signed from IF Brommapojkarna in August 2017 but did not join up with his Albion team-mates until January 2018, when he made his debut for Rusk’s team against Reading at the Madejski Stadium.

The Swede hit the ground running with 11 goals in 15 matches for the Seagulls, which helped towards gaining promotion, via the play-offs, into the top flight of under-23 football.

On the international scene, Gyokeres played for various age groups before making his senior debut for Sweden in January - scoring in a 2-2 draw against Iceland a few days later.
