ALBION defender Ben White believes his learning curve will be enhanced again after signing a contract extension and completing a loan move to Leeds United.

White's extra year keeps him with the Seagulls until 2022.

The first of those years will be spent with the Yorkshiremen in the Championship following previous loan stints in each of the past two seasons with Newport County in League Two and Peterborough United in League One.

Youth product White, 21, said: "I've learnt so many things from going out on loan, such as playing against different players every week, who are usually big and strong.

"I've had to use what I’m good at, because I'm not going to be stronger and faster than everyone. It's about working out the ways to beat someone.

"My concentration has improved and I've developed in the air. I've played in some really important games and decision making is vital in those.

"It's been a great experience and I'm now looking forward to going to Leeds and getting started up there.

"It's really nice to secure another year at this football club. I’ve been here for six years now, and it shows that all my hard work is paying off and that's great to see."

White has 50 senior appearances under his belt with Albion in the League Cup, Newport and Peterborough.

Leeds have been monitoring him since he helped Newport knock them out of the FA Cup two seasons ago.

"I knew Leeds were interested about 18 months ago, when I was at Newport, and they've obviously been keeping track of me," White said.

"It's a massive football club, but I haven't really thought too much about it yet — I'm not the sort of person to get too ahead of myself."

White's latest deal and loan move emphasise how highly he is regarded by Albion and others.

The switch to Elland Road provides a chance to shine under greater scrutiny in the Championship.

Simon Rusk, Albion's under-23s coach, said: "This is an exciting move for Ben and one that makes sense in his natural development.

"Ben will have to adapt once again, as he joins a new group of players and experiences an increased standard of quality and athleticism in the Championship."
