Valencia legend Vicente has described Albion’s date with the Spanish Cup holders as the perfect test – for both teams.

The former Spain international helped build the Valencia squad which will visit the Amex on Friday.

It is the Seagulls’ last outing before tackling their third Premier League season.

Vicente, who thrilled Albion fans during two seasons towards the end of his career, recently stepped down from his recruitment role with Valencia.

But he believes they have put together their strongest side since he helped them win the title and reach the Champions League final.

He told The Argus: “After some very weak years in terms of titles and results, we are doing things well again.

“We are back in the Champions League and we won the Spanish Cup. Let’s hope we return to where we should be, which is finishing in the top four and competing for European trophies.

“It is a club which, a few seasons ago, was doing that.

“Of course, I think they are pre-season games but this will be competitive.

“Valencia are a team of a high level and it will be a good match – for both teams.”

Albion might have the edge in terms of preparation given that Valencia do not start their league season until August 17.
