Poor conditions prevented Olympic athlete Natalie Harvey from breaking the course record at the Brighton 10k on Sunday.
Harvey, who competed for Australia at the Athens Games in 2004 in the 10,000m, showed her pedigree by cruising to a comfortable victory.
However, her hopes of beating the previous best time of 33min 52sec set by Therisa Dyer way back in 1993 were wrecked by strong winds which battered the runners on the seafront as she crossed the line in 34min 22sec.
Stephen Sharp gained revenge over last year's champion Jason Ward to win the men's race.
Sharp had been forced to settle for runners-up spot 12 months ago but was not to be denied this time as he finished eight seconds ahead of his rival in 31min 10sec.
Louis Jones, from Hove, was the top Sussex runner in fourth place in a time of 32min 9sec.
The Brighton and Hove City quartet of Andrew Donno, Nigel Gates, Chris Thomson and Josh Painter won the men's team prize with Phoenix claiming the bronze.
Veteran Julie Briggs led the Arena 80 team - which also included Vicky Boyle, Emma Rollins and Juliette Roberts - to victory in the women's race.
