It looks like Eastbourne Eagles will be running in the Elite League next season.

No announcement has been made yet but all the signs are that, when March comes around, the sppedway outfit will be back in action under new promoter Martin Hagon.

It would be no surprise if all became clear and official in the next week or so, ahead of Indoor Speedway at the Brighton Centre on Sunday, December 9.

Eagles fans should rejoice at that news, as should British speedway fans in general.

Arlington Stadium is a rarity in Elite League speedway as a compact, welcoming atmospheric track where sport of a motorised variety does not rank second behind dog racing.

A place where you can get a good view without going indoors and watching behind glass.

And a place with a real buzz to it on a good night.

Was the club's continuation ever in serious doubt? Well, Bob Dugard, the true power behind the Eagles, said he could not 100 per cent guarantee they would be around next season after Bob Brimson left.

You have to take note when Dugard issues a warning like that. But then, having sounded his note of caution, he spoke with real enthusiasm for half an hour as if the club would be alive and thriving in 2008.

After a tough 2007, a bit of relative success and an exciting young team is the least Eagles fans deserve next season.
