Late goals from Tom Davis and Gary Holloway helped Lewes win 3-1 at Newport County to reclaim top spot in Blue Square south.
The Rooks dominated the first half and led through Andy Drury's 34th-minute strike from a cross by Paul Booth, who could have had a hat-trick himself.
Newport scrambled an equaliser eight minutes from time when Charlie Griffin got a touch to Andy Gurney's free-kick but Lewes were not finished.
Simon Wormull headed over a golden chance on 87 minutes but two minutes later Tom Davis converted a Dale Binns cross, then Binns was brought down for a penalty deep in stoppage time which Holloway converted.
Manager Steven King said: "We were unbelievable. You could see how well we did in the first half because Newport were in the changing room for no more than a minute at half-time before their manager sent them back out on to the pitch.
"It would have been a travesty if we had not won. Their manager said to me afterwards no other team had done that to them at home this season."
Lewes: Williams, Hamilton, Barness, Wormull, Robinson, Simpemba, Drury (sub Davis), Holloway, Barr (sub Groves), Booth (sub Legge), Binns. Subs not used: Sigere, France.
