Harry Smith has told his Crowborough players not to get carried away despite taking a huge step towards landing the title.

Crows moved six points clear at the top with three games in hand on closest rivals Whitehawk after a 1-0 win at Pagham.

Recent signing Gavin Gordon scored the only goal with a cheeky backheel midway through the second half.

Joint boss Smith said: "It wasn't a football spectacle but the conditions and opponents made it very difficult for us to play football.

"We have told the players we had a good day but we must keep digging out three points and we won't celebrate until we can't be caught."

Crowborough's Justin Harris and Pagham's Billy Chatfield were both sent off.

Pagham boss Gary Block said: "My lads were the better side and deserved something out of the game but that is why Crowborough are top."

Arundel boss Richard Towers has set his sights on the runners-up spot after his in-form side became only the fourth side to beat Whitehawk this season.

Josh Biggs gave them the lead in the 29th minute and substitute James Crane wrapped up the points with three minutes to go before Jason Wimbleton saw red.

Towers said: "That was our biggest game of the season as if we had lost there would have been no chance of finishing as runners-up and that is our target. It is too late to catch Crowborough but we are unbeaten in 14 and want to finish as high as we can."

At the bottom Selsey moved out of the relegation zone after their first away win of the season, a 1-0 victory at fellow strugglers Oakwood thanks to Tom Ridley's 18th goal of the season.

Manager Danny Hinshelwood said: "With Chichester losing and Worthing United not playing we have now gone fifth from bottom so this was a major result for us."

Eastbourne United scored four in the last five minutes to sink St Francis Rangers 5-0 at home. Mark Warren gave United the lead after quarter of an hour but they had to wait until the closing stages to secure victory thanks to two Sam Crabb penalties and strikes from Ben Billings and Lucas Mann.

Goalkeeper Joel Harding came within an inch of scoring a freak goal as Hassocks heaped more misery on Chichester.

Harding's wind-assisted clearance in the 89th minute was pushed on to the bar by keeper Peter Rice but Lawrence Robinson was on hand to tap home the rebound. Rice was sent off a minute later from bringing down Robinson in the box with Spencer Slaughter making no mistake from the spot.

Substitute Lee Barnard inspired Hailsham to a 2-0 home win over Shoreham as he won a 74th minute penalty which Paul Richardson converted and then scored from a quickly taken free-kick with two minutes to go. Both teams were reduced to ten men with Ashley Jarvis and Grant Phillpott seeing red.

Tom Lawley came closest to breaking the deadlock for East Preston when he hit a post as they were held to a goalless draw at bottom club Sidley.

Hassan Nyang (two), Aaron Hay and Nathan Davis were the scorers as Three Bridges beat second from bottom Rye 4-1.

Manager Paul Faili said: "My players have come of age. They have suddenly realised how to beat lower sides."

The Murfin brothers, Neil and Scott, netted as Wick came from behind to beat Redhill 2-1.

Can anyone catch Crowborough?
