Eastbourne Borough head coach Nick Greenwood has called for players and supporters to keep their heads following Borough's first back-to-back defeats of the season.

Saturday's 2-1 setback at FA Cup giant-killers Havant & Waterlooville has left Garry Wilson's men trailing four points behind leaders Lewes whose injury-time goal beat Thurrock.

And after long periods of domination at Havant, Borough bosses were left once again to reflect on a game of huge Eastbourne possession and missed chances.

Greenwood said: "We have won a lot of games this season and some we have not deserved to. But we have now lost back to back games which we did not deserve to lose.

"We have just got to keep going and get things sorted out by next Saturday.

"One or two of the players were having a go at each other and we don't want that. Players must keep their heads and so must the supporters. We have all got to pull together.

"The team has done brilliantly to get into the position it has and we don't want to disappoint everyone in the last two months of the season.

"You couldn't have asked for a better start today but the goals would not go in. Then we have made two mistakes and they scored twice. We tried to force things by making changes in the second half but it wasn't to be our day."

On the evidence of the opening ten minutes Borough looked certain to get back to winning ways. But they failed to make some exciting approach play pay with excellent work by Matt Crabb wasted with a shot that was off target. Instead Havant's top striker Rocky Baptiste took charge. In the 11th minute he took advantage of a Darren Baker error to burst through on the right, rounded keeper Lee Hook and beat Marc Pullan on the by-line before working his way back into the middle to tap the ball into an unguarded net.

It was a solo effort out of the top drawer.

Rob Kember, making his first start for Borough, almost equalised but rolled the ball wide of the post as Havant struggled to clear a Matt Crabb corner.

But on 18 minutes came the killer second goal. A deep cross from the right by Charlie Henry was beautifully met at the far post by Baptiste whose angled header rocketed into the far corner of the net.

Borough did their best to get back into the game but all too often their final ball lacked quality. On the stroke of half-time only the legs of keeper Scriven kept out Matt Crabb's close0range effort.

There was no lack of effort from the visitors as the second half got under way, although Matt Crabb was over-zealous as he followed through on keeper Scriven and was booked, then replaced by his brother Nathan.

Still Borough kept pegging away and Andy Atkin's header from Paul Armstrong's corner was just inches too wide.

And when an Atkin header did find the target, Scriven pulled off the save of the day.

With Matt Smart, returning after injury, on for Baker, Borough continued to push forward. But Jenkins' slip almost allowed Baptiste to complete his hat-trick. The striker dispossessed the Borough defender and raced clear of the defence only for the advancing Hook to be equal to the task.

The only Eastbourne reward for a hard afternoon's work came in the fifth minute of injury-time when Jenkins volleyed home a Pat Harding cross.

But a race back to the centre circle to get the game quickly restarted was to no avail. The final whistle signalled Borough's fourth league defeat of the season and there are worrying signs going into the final third of the season.
