Ben Coulson is urging Worthing to turn on the style and book a play-off place.

The Raiders closed in on the end-of-season promotion showdown by winning 28-11 at home to Barnes in London One.

Victory at Shelford on Saturday will more or less assure Worthing of second place, though they need three points from four matches, or five points if they lose at Shelford, to make absolutely sure.

Worthing played some super rugby to end Barnes' play-off hopes, racing into a 28-6 lead by the break with Coulson scoring 18 points.

The tries dried up after the break, however, until Barnes skipper Simon Givens got over deep into added time.

Coulson admitted: "It was one of those first halves you don't want to end because you are playing some really good rugby.

"I can't put my finger on one thing we didn't do in the second half but we didn't fire.

"In the first half we played in fits and starts like we should be playing all the time. The forwards and backs linked up well."

He added: "We've played some good rugby all season but we have been a bit sporadic.

"We have put together spells of 20 or 30 minutes and now we need to elongate that and put 80 minutes together."

Coulson went over in the corner for Raiders' first try after Jamie Stewart-McDonald's long feed allowed Will Harris to give the scoring pass.

The conversion, plus two earlier penalties, took Raiders into a 13-6 lead.

Andy Phillips got over after good link-up play, with Coulson goaling.

He then kicked another penalty before debut wing Duncan Gunderson added the try of the match after more good work by Stewart-McDonald and Harris.

Harris got over after the break but play was called back for a forward pass.

Haywards Heath are also in great form ahead of their big game.

Heath won 41-17 at Sidcup to remain within a point of unbeaten London Two South leaders Jersey, who visit Whitemans Green on Saturday. Sidcup are the only team to have taken a point off Jersey so far but they had no answer to arguably Heath's best first-half display of the season.

They led 34-0 at the break thanks to three tries from Joe Govett and one apiece by Nick Miller and Sam Humphrey-Baker. Simon Fifield converted three and added a penalty.

Sidcup got back into the game after the break with two pushover tries but Greg Parkes rounded things off nicely for Heath with a 20-yard finish which Fifield converted.

The afternoon could have been even better. Not for the first time, Jersey were pushed to the limit, this time winning just 18-17 at home to Chobham.

A converted try at the start of seven added minutes gave Jersey a tense finale after they led 18-10 in front of a crowd of about 1,000.
