Bognor will be London Four South East champions if they win at Crowborough on Saturday.

Lee Balchin scored a hat-trick of tries as they moved a step closer to the perfect league season by beating Folkestone 50-3.

Billy Toone, Roy Sergeant, Scott Barlow, Pat Gibbs and Tom Gelder added scores and Rob Parry kicked five conversions. Player/coach Karl Flynn said: "We put some good stuff together."

Dan Penney kicked a late penalty to give second-placed Hove an 8-5 win at Bromley in a match which was more entertaining than the scoreline suggests.

Penney went over from a quickly-taken tap with three minutes to go but was recalled by the referee. Penney then called for the tee and kicked the winning goal instead.

Hove were down to 14 men by then after 18-year-old back row forward Jack Baker was sent off for a second yellow-card offence. Clayton Saunders scored Hove's try after just five minutes following a lineout take by Jason Ellison. Bromley levelled after an hour.

Horsham are convinced they can escape the drop after coming from behind to beat rivals Whitstable 22-16 at Coolhurst.

Rob Clegg, Luke Arnold and Doug Wright scored unconverted tries to turn the game.

Whitstable were 13-7 up early in the second half but Horsham skipper Matt Stone said: "We upped it a gear.

"A lot of teams would have thought Sussex One here we come' but we kept going."

Wright's clinching try came after great work by two of the outstanding players on the day, scrum half Phil Harrison and threequarter Stuart Charnely.

Harrison scored Horsham's first-half try with a sniping run and Rob Grantham-Hill converted.

Grantham-Hill failed to goal the final try from in front of the posts, however, and that could have been costly when a Whitstable penalty cut their arrears to six points.

Stone said: "Our defence in those last three minutes was fantastic."

Hastings and Bexhill are in trouble after failing to score for a third successive match.

Defeat by Charlton Park was not a surprise but the tame manner of their 58-0 reverse was disappointing.

Crowborough lost 23-10 at home to Beccehamians.
