Matt Tucker scored an explosive century as Barcombe continued their impressive form in the East Sussex League division one since promotion.

Tucker cracked 112 from just 88 balls, including 15 fours and three sixes, as Barcombe scored 305-6 from just 41 overs away to Tunbridge Wells Borderers.

He shared an opening stand of 86 in 11 overs with Matt Lloyd (41), then Josh Wheatley joined in the fun with a 52-ball 60 and Will Marler added 46 not out.

Captain Joe Wheatley, Josh's elder brother, bowled magnificently after tea, taking 7-18 from 17.3 overs which included 13 maidens as Borderers were skittled for 90.

Last year's division two champions are fourth in the table with just two defeats from eight matches and are now 22 points off top spot.

Wheatley said: "The players learned so much from our year in division one two years ago. We are doing really well and it is nice to show what we can do without an overseas player.

"We have a young team and they are coming into their own. We have beaten Iden and Ringmer, two established division one teams, and beating them rather than just the teams we came up with was a real boost for confidence.

"We also nearly beat Crowhurst Park, who won it last year, and we are just looking to finish as high as possible."

Ringmer climbed above Iden into top spot following a four-wicket win at home to Ditchling.

Opener Guy Walsh hit 41 for the visitors but they were making slow progress until John Norfolk (79) and Chris Atkinson (42) started crashing boundaries through a fast outfield to take the total to 217-6. Murray Barnett was the pick of the bowlers with 5-66 including an excellent one-handed caught and bowled.

Ringmer lost Matt Savage in the first over but fellow opener Steve Barnett (54), Michael Turner (68) and skipper Glyn Crees (52) took them to within sight of victory. Needing 11 to win off the last over, Colin Coddington reverse swept the first ball for four and hit the winning run with one ball to spare.

Iden lostthe lead after only managing a draw at Fletching, who posted 249-6. Iden responded with 191-6 as Andy Crouch scored 76 and Phil Shanks 66.

It was a disappointing weekend for Iden who also lost in the regional stages of the National Village Knockout. Visitors Yalding, from Kent, set 266-7 from their 40 overs and Iden were dismissed for 169 in reply despite 42 from Tom Rawstone.

Reigning champions Crowhurst Park are third behind Iden after losing by 38 runs to promoted Rottingdean.

Simon Corrigal (71 not out) and Henry Ledden (49) helped Rottingdean set 232-9 in the face of excellent bowling from Paul Brookes (6-93).

Colin Ayres (37) top scored in reply but Crowhurst were bowled out for 194 with Alex Potter picking up 5-83.

Willingdon were convincing winners against Rye after posting 213-7 which included a third-wicket stand of 113 between Michael Krause (65) and Stefan Ashford (45). Skipper Joel Craven added 30 not out while Pete Harris was the pick of the bowlers with 4-53.

That effort was overshadowed by Willingdon's Taf Mpandawana who claimed 7-44 after tea to dismiss Rye for just 95. Only Tom Brownbill (37) and James Hamilton (26) reached double figures.

Heathfield Park won the top of the table clash in division two. Lee Poulton (69), Russell Barden (44) and Matt Tullett (39 not out) chipped in as visitors Newhaven made 210-6 while Simon Briggs was the pick of the bowlers with 4-59.

Ian Cox (72) and Terry Penfold (34) got Heathfield off to a great start in reply. Wickets began tumbling to hand the initiative to Newhaven but Ian Long then took control with a hard-hitting 51 not out to lead them to victory at 212-6.

Battle climbed into second place after a five-wicket win at Robertsbridge who were bowled out for 82 with Mick Gedeye claiming 7-31. Ben Ridgway (31 not out) and Joe Carthew (28) led a successful chase despite five wickets falling.

Only James Hope (32) stood out as St Peters were bowled out for 121 but that proved enough for victory as Pevensey were skittled for 65 in reply with Utkarsh Tewari taking 5-34 and Phil Smith 3-19.

There were more than 500 runs scored as Eastbourne III beat Newick by eight-wickets. Rupert Thacker cracked 112 and James Waylett 66 as Newick posted 252-4 but the home side passed that for the loss of just two wickets thanks to half centuries from Russell Varney (76 not out), Adam Blackburn (69 not out) and Jon Lord (53).

Another centurion was Greg Watson (109) as bottom side Herstmonceux set 230-5 at home to Buxted Park. Watson shared an opening stand of 150 with Dale Mayhew (40). Buxted batted out a draw at 142-8 in reply with Rob Hunter (36) top scoring.
