Horsham are hoping to sign Eastbourne Borough’s Darren Budd on loan after striker Lee Farrell quit the club.

Farrell, who scored 29 goals in nearly 70 appearances after signing at the start of the 2007-08 season, has told boss John Maggs he wants a fresh challenge after failing to command a regular place in recent weeks.

Maggs said: “Lee’s got a bit frustrated in the last few weeks and feels it’s time for him to move on.

“It’s disappointing because he has been a very good player for us and was fantastic in our FA Cup run last season. We wish him well for the future.”

Maggs hopes to bring in former Bognor midfielder Budd in time for tomorrow’s trip to Staines Town.

He added: “I’ve watched Darren a number of times and I’m sure he will improve us.”

Hornets have injury worries as they try to win their fourth successive game. Jack Page, Lee Carney and Alex Haddow are definitely out and midfielder Jacob Mingle is unlikely to play because of a skin infection.

Carney, whose appearances have been restricted by a groin problem, is targeting a comeback against league leaders Dover on December 20.
