Chris Winterton has been backed to be a success at Worthing after joining on a month’s loan from Eastbourne Borough.

The former Albion professional was due to complete the paperwork on his switch last night and will go straight into the team for tomorrow’s match at home to Leatherhead.

Winterton will provide cover for regular keeper Alan Mansfield, who suffered a knee injury in the warm-up before Tuesday’s game at Godalming which meant striker Ross Treleaven played in goal.

Rebels joint boss Danny Bloor said: “Chris is a fantastic young goalkeeper. He played against us for Horsham YMCA last season while on loan from Albion and was outstanding.

“He comes from a good background with his dad being a very good goalkeeper so I am sure he will do well for us and get some much-needed match practice at the same time.”

Winterton will become the fifth different player to start in goal for Worthing this season which is in stark contrast to the last two years when Rikki Banks, who is now with Lewes, was an ever-present.

Defenders Stuart Axten and Andy Alexander continue to be missing tomorrow as Worthing bid to extend their unbeaten run in Ryman division one south to 13 games but Jorge Lopes could be back in contention after a number of weeks on the sidelines.
