East Grinstead are expecting to be cheered on by their biggest crowd of the season as they home in on the national league title.

The Saint Hill club are top of the premier division with two games to go, starting with tomorrow’s final home match of the season against mid-table Bowdon. Just four points separate the top five clubs with Grinstead finishing away to fifth-placed Surbiton next weekend.

Manager Matt Jones is not thinking about that game yet. He just wants to get tomorrow’s tricky fixture against Bowdon out of the way.

Jones said: “Bowdon are in a mid-table position but not mathematically totally secure so nothing is a given. They are a well run club and don’t do things by half measures. Even if the season was dead and buried they would still give it their all.

“We know they will put up a good fight. We had a 1-1 draw at Bowdon in November. We have things to address from that game which we have been working on this week and we will be absolutely focused on what we have to do in front of what again will be another big crowd. We need to secure that European place first and a win on Saturday will secure that.”

Victory would guarantee Grinstead the top three finish, which was their prime target for the season, and then they could start thinking about the bigger prize.

Remaining fixtures involving the top five, tomorrow: Beeston v Surbiton, Cannock v Hampstead and Westminster, East Grinstead v Bowdon, Southgate v Reading.

Sunday March 29: Hampstead and Westminster v Beeston, Reading v Cannock, Surbiton v East Grinstead.
