Steve Ibbiton hailed the performance of 17-year-old Grant Hall after Lewes went down 2-0 away to Barrow.

Hall's previous first-team appearances have been at right-back but he started in central midfield at Barrow before dropping back to centre back after Chris Breach was sent off just before half-time.

Caretaker manager Ibbitson said: "Not allowing for his age, Grant did very well. When you consider he is only just 17 you realise how well he did.

"Rikki Banks was outstanding, too. They were the two that stood out for me."

Ibbitson took an extremely young squad to the North West after losing Shaun Wilkinson on Friday when he was recalled early from his loan spell by Havant.

He had only two players aged over 22 in the squad and a glut of teenagers.

Ibbitson said: "We played very well in spells, we had more possession than them and kept the ball better than they did. But they were a typical Conference side who bashed the ball into the corners and pressured us hard.

"They didn't have loads of chances but they had a few clear cut chances."
