East Grinstead have made Wales international Rick Gay their first signing of the summer.

The 25-year-old set-piece specialist has joined the defending national champions from Southgate.

Although further signings will follow, Gay will bolster a defence stripped of Martin Haener who has returned to Germany at the end of his one-season stint in England.

Gay, who has also played in the Great Britain Super League for Celtic Panthers, was recently called up by Wales where he plays alongside East Grinstead goalkeeper George Harris.

Manager Matt Jones said: “From what we have seen of Rick over the last couple of seasons he will be a good addition to the squad.

“We are trying to reach greater heights, both domestically and in Europe, and we need to strengthen the depth of the squad.

“We are hopeful of being able to reveal a significant signing in the near future which will add to the positive news of signing Rick.”

Meanwhile, East Grinstead have announced a major sponsorship deal with Horsham-based car dealer group, Lifestyle Europe.

Club captain Phil Coote said: “This has been an historic year and we are all now hungry to take our game to the next level and make our mark in Europe. With the challenges next season will bring, it is vital we work with a solid team of partners and the backing of Lifestyle will give us another boost in helping to raise our profile.”
