Plumpton chief executive Claire Sheppard says she is shocked not all courses hire frost covers.
Sunday’s Sussex National meeting has been the only turf card staged in Britain this week as sub-zero temperatures forced abandonements all over the country with prospects for the rest of the week similarly bleak.
Plumpton went ahead, according to Shepherd, thanks to covers which cost £20,000 to put down.
She said: “It would not have taken place if we hadn’t covered up. We had three nights of frost. Everyone appreciates the efforts of 26 groundstaff and the frost-covering people."
