Whitehawk aim to push on to greater heights after being crowned County League champions.

A 2-0 win at home to Redhill clinched their first title since 1984 and with it promotion for the first time to the Ryman League.

The club set themselves a double goal at the start of the season of winning the league and bringing the ground up to scratch to ensure they could go up.

Both have now been achieved but joint-boss George Parris insists the club is in no mood to stand still.

The one-time West Ham and Albion midfielder said: “We are trying to do it the right way. We set out to win the league but also to bring the ground up to Ryman status. We have done both and hopefully next year we can give a good account of ourselves in Ryman division one south.

“We are reasonably well equipped already. The same as anything, whether you go up or you are relegated, you have to build and we may need four or five players.

“We want to push on. Once you have achieved what you set out to do, the next year you look to continue it. If we are in Ryman south we will look to stay there and, if we have a good season, finish mid-table or above. You always have to be ambitious in what you are doing.

“One day, maybe if not next year then the year after, we may be looking to win Ryman south to go up to Ryman premier. I don’t think you can stand still. Once you have achieved something you then need to move on again.”
