Horsham YMCA boss Colin Jenkinson admits he got it wrong after releasing an entire side in the space of four days.

Six players were shown the door immediately after the 11-0 defeat to Leatherhead at the weekend while five more were let go on Tuesday.

Jenkinson, pictured, chose to put his faith in youth when he took over at Gorings Mead in the summer and began rebuilding a squad which had been decimated following Chris White’s departure.

The approach has not gone to plan however with YMCA sitting second from bottom in Ryman division one south.

Jenkinson said: “It was my mistake going with too much youth so we are trying to redress that balance.

“Unfortunately we haven’t got the luxury of time to develop those players so it was best they went somewhere else to play. People say you don’t win anything with kids and at the end of the day the players we brought in weren’t able to make the step up.

“We’re sort of starting again but we still have eight players left in the squad who were the ones we wanted to keep. I’ll be trying to add some older heads in the next week or so and we’ll go from there.”
