Debut wing Phil Williams collected two tries and seven conversions as Worthing opened their London One season with a 71-12 win at promoted Guildford.

Duncan Taylor had three tries and a conversion with Charlie McGowan (2), Todd Murphy (2), Jamie Stewart-MacDonald and Ryan Storer also going over.

Coach Ian Davies said: "I think we caught them on the right day although we played some really good stuff, especially in the first 15 minutes."

Haywards Heath coach Nigel Baker admits his young side have a lot to learn after surrendering a match-winning position at home to Shelford in their London One opener.

Heath were leading 20-18 and looking the stronger side when Shelford's winger Liam Deards suffered a serious head injury and had to be rushed to hospital.

Deards was later released to travel home with the rest of his side but the 30 minute delay to the game seemed to affect Heath more as the visitors ran out 39-30winners.

Baker said: "We were looking strong when the game was stopped but we didn't cope well with hanging around on the pitch for half an hour.

"It disrupted our rhythm but we still had the chances to win the game without taking them and we've got to learn from that."

Tries from Sio Mauganai and Simon Filfield, who later had to go off with broken ribs, had put Heath ahead at the break and winger Roscoe Atkins touched down in the second half to make it 30-25 before Shelford mounted their comeback.

A new look Lewes side endured a miserable first half at Wimbledon in London Two south as they crashed to a 58-5 defeat.

Scott Patto scored a consolation in a much improved performance after the break and the scoreline would have been closer but for two disallowed pushover tries from line-outs.

Chichester got off to a flying start to the new season as they scored seven tries to blow visitors Old Elthamians away in London Three South East.

Richard Adams and Sean Hammond touched down twice while Lee Evans, Andy Webb and Matt Wilkinson also scored to give Chichester a 42-3 lead at the break. But they could not maintain the momentum as the visitors scored twice to cut the deficit to 42-13.

Bognor crashed to a 56-13 defeat at Lordswood in their Three South East opener.

Williams is a wing wonder in romp.
