Nicki Pedersen is hoping to finalise a deal to ride up to six meetings in the lucrative Russian League next season.

But he has turned down an invitation to venture to Siberia in the remaining weeks of the season.

Mega Lada Togliatti were so pleased with Pedersen's debut on Wednesday they invited him back for more.

But the Danish dynamo turned them down when he discovered they wanted him to travel to the far edge of Russia.

This week has been busy even by Pedersen's hectic standards with meetings in England on Monday, Thursday and Saturday, his new Russian club on Wednesday and Friday's Ekstraliga outing for Marma Rzeszow at Torun in Poland.

But he reckons it will prove worthwhile.

He said: "It was busy. When I got back from Russia I had been up for 23 hours and that was a long day but I really enjoyed it.

"Togliatti were very pleased and we are talking about taking more meetings next season, maybe four, five or six.

"I don't think I will be back there this year though.

"They wanted me to do the trip to Vladivostock but that's 10,000km (about 7,000 miles) from Heathrow and it would take me five days to go there and back.

"It's near Siberia, near China, so I won't be doing that."

The Russian League offers big rewards for those ready to work long hours.

Pedersen left his Hertfordshire home at 3pm on Tuesday for the flight to Frankfurt, then took a connection to Samara, 700 miles south east of Moscow but just 45 minutes from the Togliatti track.

He suffered mechanical failure in his first race but borrowed a bike and dropped just one point in his remaining four heats.

Then he managed to get back fit and fresh to help Eagles win 48-42 at Ipswich, completing their third league double of the season.

He said: "That was fantastic. Everybody rode well. With the injuries we have had I think we have done okay this season and that was a great performance."

Pedersen picked up 13 points on Friday as Rzeszow went down 50-40 at Torun to slip three points behind their Ekstraliga rivals.
