Paul Wilkerson has parted company with Lewes after having his contract cancelled.

The goalkeeper will be replaced by loan signing Dan Crane for tomorrow's FA Cup third qualifying round tie at Dorchester.

Crane, 22, has joined Lewes on a two-month loan from Rushden and Diamonds which could become a permanent deal.

Manager Steven King held Wilkerson partly accountable for Bishop's Stortford's late free-kick winner in a 3-2 defeat at the Dripping Pan a week ago.

King said: "We had an amicable chat and both felt it was in the best interests that we made a new start. He had showed nowhere near the form he showed last year and I felt he had made more mistakes in the last ten games than he made all of last season.

"The travelling had also become a bit of a problem but I don't think he looked settled this year. He is still a good goalkeeper and he did well for us last year but I think some of the players had lost confidence in him."

Crane was a regular at Burton but injury cost him his place ahead of their FA Cup clash with Manchester United last season and he was unable to get back into the team. He went on loan to Rushden and Diamonds, making eight League appearances last season, before making the switch permanent.

However, he has found himself No. 2 behind Nicky Eyre under new Rushden boss Paul Hart.

King signed Crane following a chat with former England international Nigel Clough, who managed the keeper at Burton and spoke highly of him.

Crane's opposite number at Dorchester tomorrow will be Albion goalkeeper Richard Martin, who is on a season-long loan with the Magpies.

Lewes could recall Lewis Hamilton, who is back at the club after a loan spell with Worthing.

Junior Kadi is back from international duty with Sierra Leone and goes straight into the squad but Dean Hooper is still a week away from fitness.

Trialist Lee Hall has left Lewes.

He was twice an unused substitute for the Rooks.
